The winery
Nestled in the small town of Hopland in Mendocino County, Campovida is ninety minutes north of the Golden Gate Bridge. Steeped in small-town history, Hopland lends a comforting and simplistic feel for Campovida visitors. Many of our guests mention their journey to the winery feels like coming home, taking a deep breath of fresh air, or like driving the hillsides of Italy.
We take heart in honoring the legacy of this land. We acknowledge that we are on the traditional territory of the Central Pomo tribe. As referenced from hoplandtribe.com, the tragic history rests on this land. “The lives of the Sho-Ka-Wah, although challenging, was very spiritual, where the roundhouse was center of worship and ceremony, and a balance with nature was maintained though they were not ready for the impact of invading peoples from the south and the distant East. Beginning with the Spanish then Mexicans, who later laid claim to most of the valley of the Sho-Ka-Wah in the form of a land grant from the Mexican government, severely altered the way of life for the Sho-Ka-Wah people. Mistreatment led to the Sho-Ka-Wah appealing to the highest government official in the region and then being granted a tract of land which became the home of the Sho-Ka-Wah for little over a half-century.”
Fernando Feliz received the land through a grant in 1844. Following Feliz, came the Peck (1862-1890), Foster (1890-1942), Haas (1942-1984), Fetzer (1984-1992), and Brown-Forman (1992-2006) families. Most barns built on Campovida property have been here since the 1890s, back when the main regional crops were hops. We gain perspective when we look up at one of the remaining 500+-year-old valley oak trees and remember that they were here before ‘America’ was formed.
We are humbled by the history of this land and are honored to steward the certified organic farm and vineyards.

Directions
From the South: Take highway 101 north past Healdsburg and Cloverdale. Watch as the 101 narrows to just two lanes with very little traffic and look for the sign that says "Old River Road." Turn right at Old River Road and follow for about 1 mile. Turn right into our tree-lined driveway just before the first stop sign. You will immediately enter into our nature zone and it is time to exhale. You have arrived.
From the North: We are just 12 minutes south of Ukiah. Take highway 101 south through the town of Hopland. Watch for the Highway 175 sign and take a left. Drive less than 1 mile, where the road will curve and you will see a stop sign. Stop. As long as our private gate is open, go straight into our tree-lined driveway. You will immediately enter into our nature zone and it is time to exhale. You have arrived.
